Girlfriend said it wasn’t as fast as the Crossfire and wasn’t as loud. After we got back into my car she also said the Crossfire was fun on start up. Why does Fiat sell these things with a muffler? My roommate’s 500 Abarth is louder.
I’m warming up to the idea of getting a cheap Classica, unbolting the muffler and adding a LSD.
I thought the car handled great, love the size, and really enjoyed having the top down. Honestly seemed pretty quiet on the inside too. Maybe that thicker glass/top actually makes a difference over the Miata.

How’d the little Multiair feel? Have you driven a ND - if so, how’d they compare?

I test drove both an Abarth and a Classica because the dealer only had an automatic Abarth, so I took the other one out to see what the manual was like. I preferred the Abarth, but I thought the ride was very stiff on rough roads. As in, worse than my lowered 335xi with 19” wheels and summer tires. The base suspension is extremely soft and the tires are weak. In both of them the seat didn’t recline enough, and the manual shifter was not as lovely as my memories of my old NB.

Honestly not sure how I feel about the 1.4T. I like it a lot in the 500 Abarth from the passenger seat, but it was different not having the last 1000rpm give the most shove. I’ve never owned a turbo car. Though I do realize that 90% of my driving is between 2-5k rpm and it felt great there.
I test drove an ND a while ago, but didn’t really get a chance to push it.

Exhaust+Tune seems to be a must for this thing every time I read about a first impression.

I drive an auto Crossfire so any manual will be nice to me, but kind of wish I drove the Classica then too, if its that soft. But then again every road around Detroit is complete shit.
The Abarth felt great ride/handling wise to me, the Crossfire is a pretty stiff car. Themanwiththesauce thinks its the worst riding thing ever.
I’m undecided but I don’t think the Abarth is the must buy of the range.

Woah...Its really sexy in that color.

I really think the LSD and Brembo brakes are the must-have features whether you’re talking ND or 124.
The 124 Abarth lets you combine those things with assorted luxo options while the ND Club does not (and forces you to pay more for the privilege since the Brembos are packaged with BBS wheels). While the turbo motor seems more appealing on paper, stock for stock the ND is actually quicker. The Abarth is easier to get more horsepower out of through cranking up the boost, of course.
Honestly though, I haven’t been in any rush to try an ND Club, because the limited seat recline was a dealbreaker for me. I tend to recline my seat a bit more than average to accommodate my big gym rat back muscles. Even with the seat fully reclined I felt like I was being pushed forward.

Actually disappointed in the exhaust, it was okay but without doubt needs a muffler delete.

I would get or put in a LSD either way, but I’m not a track rat I don’t think I need the brembos. I commute and take lots of roads trips, which is why I’m leaning Fiat. The noise.
I really like how it’s just enough space for me on the inside, being thin and a bit over 6'.

Exhaust - yes on any car
wheels - yea because I want summers and winters
suspension - meh? I liked how it handled.

Yes I know, when I mentioned to the sales guy I wanted to check out a 124 Abarth he kinda tiptoed into saying, “wellllll.....the only one I have on the lot right now is an automatic, I know most people want the stick on cars like this, but you can try it out and then we have a stick shift non-Abarth one.”

For a brand new car I’d much rather start with it as close to how I want it as possible than have to go through things like swapping a differential. The sales guy at Fiat actually suggested an aftermarket big brake kit because he had an Abarth in the pipeline without the Brembos and I was like, “this is a brand new car with a warranty, if there’s a factory brake upgrade I want that.”
I don’t want the Brembos for track purposes. When I had a Miata, part of the fun was being able to brake really late and chuck it through a turn, even say, charging down an off-ramp and braking at the last possible minute before sailing through a turn. My NB had the stock sport suspension with Bilstein shocks etc., an agressive alignment, sticky Hankook RS2 tires, and for brakes it was slotted rotors, Hawk HP+ super-noisy brake pads, and stainless lines.

miata with coilovers is much better.

How tall are you, and how well did you fit in it?

Thin 6'2" and I fit perfectly in it. I wouldn’t want to be any taller but I loved the just enough space feeling.

I actually have someone looking at auctions for me. So I’m not buying new, just waiting for an ND or 124 to pop up.
At this point I might just take whatever comes first, but I’ll get the call for model/trim/miles and will have to make a choice.

From what you said yesterday about LSD, I would at least hold out for an Abarth or Club, if not necessarily one with Brembos.
![]() 07/07/2017 at 14:06 |

Yea I clarified I wanted those but if a good enough deal came up on another trim I’d think about. Selling the Crossfire will just be extra cash and It’d be kind of cool to be in a Grand Touring and have a LSD.
Obviously it would be just be easier if there one already in the car though.

I’m still irked at Mazda for only including the sport suspension and LSD on the Club trim. That was never the case on all previous Miata generations. But the seats irk me more.

You’re not alone, me 2 years ago:
Lol, still have the same mindset, just took me this long to buy one.

Yup, me too.

But seriously, I need at least one or two more notches of recline on the seats for any ND or 124 to be an option for me.

Looks identical to the one I had last month to review. Agree the exhaust was waay too quiet. And why these things come in any color other than Rosso Red is a mystery to me.

Except that one has the really expensive tech package with the better lights.
Needs a muffler delete for sure and I’d take any other color over silver. But I’m still just waiting for a 124 or Miata to go across an auction block.

Yeah, it was cool how the lights would turn to follow the wheel lock to lock.
